Fun times during the opening party of Helmut Newton – A RETROSPECTIVE in FOAM Amsterdam with my dearest friend Alex, which will be also a part of the TRUE FACES collection. Alex, in case you didn’t knew about it, now you know. ;-)))))))
Helmut Newton (1920-2004) was a German-Australian photographer. He was a ‘prolific, widely imitated fashion photographer whose provocative, erotically charged black-and-white photos were a mainstay of Vogue and other publications. The fact that Helmut Newton had the guts to photograph in a sort of way (especially in that time), makes him one of my favorite photographers all time. I remember the first photograph I have seen from him, at that time I did not know who that photographer was, but I fell in love. Years later, when I became more interested in art and photography, I found a book from Helmut Newton, not knowing who ‘Helmut Newton’ was. I was sold. The models, the black and white, the story behind the photos, the pose, the attitude, the atmosphere, the nudity. Everything became 1. That was the first moment I have sold my soul to a photographer.
Helmut Newton quote in the book ‘HELMUT NEWTON WORK’
‘I have always avoided photographing in the studio. A woman does not spend her life sitting or standing in front of a seamless white paper background. Although it makes my life more complicated, I prefer to take my camera out into the street, into public and private spaces, places often inaccessible to anyone but the rich. And places that are out of bounds for photographers have always had a special attraction for me’
I truly agree with the ‘A woman does not spend her life sitting or standing in front of a seamless white paper.’ Girl, although you are spending money trying to get nice photos from a ‘good’ photographer, don’t ever stand in front of seamless white paper. You are way more worth than that 😉
